RESOLUTION ECO 2/2006
HARMONISATION OF LABELLING OF WINES – LEGIBILITY
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY,
CONSIDERING the OIV International Standard for the labelling of wines,
CONSIDERING the Codex Alimentarius Standard for the labelling of pre-packaged foods,
CONSIDERING that the prescriptions concerning labelling constitute standards that must not create unnecessary obstacles to international trade in terms of the Agreement on technical barriers to trade of the World Trade Organisation,
CONSIDERING Resolution ECO 1/2005 and that it is advisable to complete the O.I.V standard by further recommendations concerning the presentation of mandatory indications,
ADOPTS the following amendments to the International Standard for the labelling of wines:
Article 1.4 is deleted and articles 1.5 and 1.6 are renumbered accordingly.
In article 3.1.10, the words “of Article 1.5” are replaced by “of article 1.4”.
A new section 4.3 is added, titled “Legibility”.
4.3. Legibility
The information must be written in a size and colour which is clear, indelible, and readily legible by the consumer under normal conditions of purchase and use.
