HARMONISATION OF LABELLING OF WINES – NOMINAL VOLUME

THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY,

CONSIDERING the OIV International Standard for the labelling of wines,

CONSIDERING the Codex Alimentarius Standard for the labelling of pre-packaged foods,

CONSIDERING that the prescriptions concerning labelling constitute standards that must not create unnecessary obstacles to international trade in terms of the Agreement on technical barriers to trade of the World Trade Organisation,

CONSIDERING Resolution ECO 1/2005 and that it is advisable to complete the O.I.V standard by further recommendations concerning the presentation of mandatory indications,

ADOPTS the following amendments to the International Standard for the labelling of wines:

Article 2.4.4 is deleted and article 2.4.5 is renumbered accordingly.

A new article 4.6 is added, entitled “Presentation of nominal volume”.

4.6 Presentation of nominal volume

The nominal volume is expressed in one of the following units: litre (l) or (L), centilitre (cl), and millilitre (ml).  It is written in numbers and ended by the abbreviation or the complete spelling of the chosen unit.

The volume thus shown can be followed by references to another system of measure (e.g. the imperial system) provided that this does not result in any confusion on the quantity presented to the consumer.
