OIV International Ampelography Course

What’s ampelography?

The OIV International Ampelography Course is part of a global historical context dating back to 1938, when the term "ampelography" was first mentioned by the OIV. Almost 10 years later, in 1949, a commission on ampelography was created with the objective of leading the creation of an International Ampelographic Register.

Ampelography nowadays

As the technical and scientific reference in the world of vine and wine, the role of the OIV is to participate actively in the promotion of this fundamental discipline, the knowledge of wine resulting from the understanding of the vine.

The main objective is both to train professionals and experts in the field of "Ampelography and Genetic Resources", and to create a network of poles and experts who can permanently exchange around this important theme for the wine sector.
