RESOLUTION VITI- OENO 1/95

THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY

CONSIDERING the proposal of Commission II "Oenology", taking into account the  work from a general session of the Expert Groups "Wine Microbiology" and "Wine  Technology" in November 1994,

DECLARES the rapid progress of global technology in the domain of genetic modification. It offers potential interest for the vine grower as well as the consumer,

CONSIDERS

  • That it is important and appropriate for the O.I.V. to give thorough and objective judgment on the use of this technology in the vitivinicultural industry, whether it be in the case of yeasts and bacteria or stocks or scions.
  • That the competent O.I.V. Expert Groups must take into consideration:
  • The present state of technology in the global vitivinicultural industry,
  • Similar activities in other international organizations (such as WHO and OECD)
  • Questions of ethics, food security and consumer information.
