Monograph on protein plant origin- Modification of the file

RESOLUTION OIV-OENO 495-2013

MONOGRAPH ON PROTEIN PLANT ORIGIN - MODIFICATION OF THE FILE

THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY,

In view of article 2, paragraph 2 iv of the agreement of 3rd April 2001 establishing the International Organisation of Vine and Wine;

CONSIDERING the work of the "Technology" and “Specifications of Oenological Products” expert groups;

CONSIDERING that the results reported show that patatin is an alternative to animal proteins used as a clarification agent in red wines;

CONSIDERING that proteins extracted from potatoes (Solanum tuberosum) also have satisfactory solubility and significant clarifying properties;

CONSIDERING that the use of proteins from potatoes is already covered by resolution OENO 8/2004 relating to "wine - fining using proteins of plant origin";

CONSIDERING that plant proteins have to satisfy the provisions of the International Oenological Codex;

CONSIDERING that the OIV has adopted resolution OENO 28/2004 relating to the specifications of plant proteins and that it agrees to modify resolution OENO 28/2004 in order to take into account the use of proteins from potatoes;

DECIDES to modify resolution OIV-OENO 28/2004, as follows:

  • The title becomes: Protein of plant origin from wheat, peas and potatoes
  • The first paragraph of point 1 is rewritten as follows: "The plant protein matter described in this monograph is extracted from wheat (Triticum vulgaris), peas (Pisum sativum), or potatoes (Solanum tuberosum). It is mainly made up of proteins and may contain, as minority constituents, carbohydrates (fibres, starch, sugars), fats and minerals. It is intended for human consumption.
