Revision of the limit of detection and limit of quantification related to potentially allergenic residues of fining agent proteins in wine

RESOLUTION OIV-COMEX 502-2012

REVISION OF THE LIMIT OF DETECTION AND LIMIT OF QUANTIFICATION RELATED TO POTENTIALLY ALLERGENIC RESIDUES OF FINING AGENT PROTEINS IN WINE

THE EXTRAORDINARY GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE OIV,

CONSIDERING Article 2 paragraph 2 iv of the agreement establishing the International Organisation of Vine and Wine,

CONSIDERING that the O.I.V’s activities aim to help protect the health of consumers and to contribute to food safety;

CONSIDERING the decision of the Steering Committee in its session of 14 March 2012

CONSIDERING the decision of the Executive committee regarding the application of the accelerated procedure according Article 21 of the Internal rules

CONSIDERING resolution OIV-OENO 427-2010 adopted by the OIV in 2010 that defines the analytical criteria,

CONSIDERING that the resolution OIV-OENO 427-2010 states that these criteria should be reconsidered taking into account decisions of other international bodies,

CONSIDERING the work of the OIV Task Force Allergen on the development of ELISA methods and other methods and the related inter-laboratory tests,

CONSIDERING the opinion of the experts of the OIV Task Force Allergen indicating that, given the technological progress, the limits of detection and quantification mentioned in the resolution OIV-OENO 427-2010 can be reduced to levels technologically achievable and fixed for the limits of detection at 0.25 mg/L (instead of 0.50) and for the limits of quantification at 0.5 mg/L (instead of 1).

CONSIDERING the opinion of the experts of the Sub-Commission on Methods of Analysis, in their meeting on 12 March 2012, which indicated that the reduction of these limits is technologically achievable and these changes do not affect neither the suitability of existing commercially available methods or kits, nor the validity of quality control and definition of these methods

CONSIDERING that the proposed changes do not modify the sample preparation,

Upon the proposal of the Sub-commission of Methods of Analysis and Appraisal of Wine and of the Steering Committee,

DECIDES: to modify only the limit of detection and the limit of quantification mentioned in table 1 of the resolution OIV-OENO 427-2010 for the methods of quantification of potentially allergenic residues of fining agent proteins in wine as follow

Limit of Detection

(expressed in mg/L)

0.25

Limit of Quantification

(expressed in mg/L)

  0.5

UNDERTAKES to continue work to possibly reduce limit of detection and limit of quantification
