To mark its centenary, the OIV takes advantage of the release of a commemorative stamp to present the highlights of its 45th congress to be held in Dijon from 14 to 18 October 2024.
Taking stock of the past 100 years and looking ahead to the next century, the OIV endorses its unique position as an institution for the global industry.
The OIV centenary in a stamp
Together with Blandine Alglave, Regional Representative of La Poste, Luigi Moio and the Mayor of Dijon François Rebsamen have unveiled a 92-perforation stamp to commemorate the centenary of the OIV and the Congress being held in France.
One of the stamps selected by France’s 2024 Programme Philatélique National, and naturally valid for international postage, it is an intaglio etching of the Hôtel Bouchu d’Esterno, built in 1643, which will be home to the OIV headquarters from this autumn.
François Rebsamen is absolutely delighted to welcome the OIV headquarters to the heart of an urban heritage that goes back hundreds of years, surrounded by the intangible heritage of French gastronomy and wine, the landscape heritage and knowhow of the Burgundy Climats and the scientific and technical heritage of the ‘United Nations of Vine and Wine’.
The restoration of the Hôtel Bouchu d’Esterno by the city of Dijon and the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region to welcome the OIV headquarters is intended, we are told by the Mayor of Dijon, to promote the universal cultural heritage of vines and wine and give the industry’s public stakeholders an innovative tool to further education, knowledge and international dialogue.
Remarking on his professional and personal connection with Dijon, President Moio emphasised that the stamp – with a print run of 600,000 – is the first concrete evidence of the process initiated by the Member States of the OIV, France and the City of Dijon in October 2021, which will see the OIV open its new headquarters on 12 October this year, on completion of an extraordinary restoration and refurbishment project. Reminding us how important it is for the OIV and its members to have appropriate permanent headquarters, Luigi Moio thanked the councillors, professionals and local organisations for their active, hands-on support to ensure the building was completed in time for the historic centenary of the only intergovernmental vine and wine organisation.
