Coordination of priority themes in viticulture

RESOLUTION VITI 1/2003

COORDINATION OF PRIORITY THEMES IN VITICULTURE

THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY,

HAVING BEEN informed of the works of the 26th Viticulture Section O.I.V. Congress in Adelaide (2001) and having acknowledged the efforts of numerous organisations worldwide in the different fields of viticulture,

CONSIDERS that the following points are of crucial importance and that they should be developed in an urgent fashion:

  • precision viticulture
  • genetic diversity and biodiversity
  • conservation of the environment and soil characteristics
  • sensory analysis of quality linked to the type of grape or wine
  • the evaluation of the effects of cultivation techniques concerning qualitative, health and social requirements
  • knowledge and stimulation of the grapevine’s natural bio-defences against parasites while respecting the eco-physiological balance.

CONSIDERS as priority objectives informing the vitivinicultural sector on the above-mentioned points and satisfying consumer demands and those of sustainable viticulture.

REQUESTS that the competent bodies of the O.I.V. establish an active coordination between different international organisations (for example: OILB, ICVG, UPOV, ISHS, GESCO, IPGRI etc.) and the different thematic symposium organisations (genetics, physiology, table grapes, zoning, etc.), to put these organisations in contact with the respective experts groups, and to periodically review the priority themes for the future OIV strategic plan.
