REDUCTION OF CHEMICAL TREATMENTS IN THE VINEYARD

THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY,

BASED ON THE PROPOSAL of Commission I, “ Viticulture ”, taking into account the common session of the Commissions,

CONSIDERS that viticulture without use of any plant protection product, is practically non existent.

OBSERVES the pressing need to put into generalized practice rational protection of the vine in order to respond to the requirements of consumers and a better respect of the environment, in promoting ail the practices of integrated pest management and, more particularly, preventative and cultural methods, biological control and the détermination of tolérance thresholds of para­ sites as well as the rational choice of pesticides, based on the risks.

RECOMMENDS to the Members Countries:

  • To support research efforts to intensify activity regarding the réduction of the use of certain plant protection products
  • To endeavor, to the extent possible, to specify for these plant protection products used for vine protection, a maximum limit of residues on grapes and vine products with due respect for international standards at the time when national régulations are developed;
  • To promote production Systems compatible with reduced use of plant protection products.
