Table grapes
RESOLUTION VITI 4/93
TABLE GRAPES
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY,
Based on the proposai of Commission I “ Viticulture ”, taking into account the recommendations that were expressed at the Symposium on Table Grapes held at Bari and Palermo, August 25-30, 1991,
DECLARES:
- That the table grape sector is in constant évolution,
- That this rapid évolution is not always in perfect harmony with the wishes of the consumer and the needs of the market;
OBSERVES:
- The importance that is being assumed, more and more, by the table grape sector;
- The success with which certain seedless varieties are presently being received,
- The spread of table grape consumption over practically every month of the year,
CONSIDERS that certain newly-developed varieties do not always correspond to the quality criteria sought by the consumer,
RECOMMENDS THAT THE MEMBER COUNTRIES:
- Study the possibility of placing the table grape sector in a regulatory framework very distinctly autonomous from that of wine grapes, where these regulatory provisions are the same,
- Draw attention to the problems of the sector notably those relative to the use of grapes that are consumed fresh,
- Define and establish the criteria for the sélection of table grapes responding to consumer demand,
- Pursue studies on the optimal time of harvest and on postharvest physiology;
PROPOSES THAT MEMBER COUNTRIES organize collections of seedless grapes accessible to the scientists of the sector.
