RESOLUTION ECO 5/99
OIV AND THE INTERNET
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY,
BASED ON THE PROPOSAL of Commission III ‘Vine and Wine Economy’;
CONSIDERING the growing importance of the Internet network as a means of communication and information,
CONSIDERING that article 6c of the Union Convention of Paris for the protection of industrial property, signed on 20 March 1883, forbids the registration as a trademark of emblems, official signs and State and Intergovernmental armorial bearings,
CONSIDERING that the acronym of the OIV was registered by the competent body as an internet domain of the first level (.net) and (.com) for the benefit of depositors who are not part of the O.I.V.,
ENTRUSTS the Director General to pursue representations and contacts with international and intergovernmental organizations, professional organizations and competent authorities to control the internet, in order to stop the abnormal situations that are being witnessed,
ASKS Member States to assist the Director General of the O.I.V. in the accomplishment of this task.
