On May 14 2024, the Director General of the OIV met with S.E.M. LU Shaye, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in France to receive the official request of China for membership of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV).
This request is the evolution of a longstanding scientific and technical cooperation between China and the OIV. China is the country with the 3rd greatest planted vineyard surface, the 8th largest consumer of wine and the first table grapes producer in the world.
China would become the 51st member state of the OIV and the first of the Organisation’s new century on November 14 2024 upon the completion of the 6-month membership process. The OIV looks forward to continuing this important collaboration and welcoming China into the OIV family.
