GENETIC CLONAL SELECTION TO ENCOURAGE RESEARCH
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY,
ON THE PROPOSAL of Commission I "Viticulture", taking into account the work of the 6th International Symposium on Vine Selection held from the 4th to the 10th of September 1994 in Yalta, Crimea, Ukraine,
WISHES
- That clonal selection - sanitary for rootstocks, sanitary and genetic states for scion varieties - is imposed in all viticultural countries,
- That progress in tests for virus detection be made,
- That methods for practical control of selected vegetal material be finalized in certain countries,
- That there is an interest in expanding databases concerning characteristics of varieties and species of vine, ampelographic, molecular and genetic, and resistance characteristics, as well as economic characteristics.
ASKS that the protection of rights of those obtaining new varieties be still considered,
ENCOURAGES research on genes and resistance to oïdium, mildew and phylloxera etc... as well as marker genes to help genetic clonal selection.
DRAWS the attention of the member countries to the catastrophic effects of deforestation which, in certain countries, means the disappearance of wild species of Vitis and Vitacees.
